Frequently Asked Questions
Can this eyedropper sample colors outside the browser window?
Yes! When running on supported desktop browsers (Chrome, Edge, Opera), the native EyeDropper API can pick
pixel colors from any application, desktop wallpaper, or video window.
How do I cancel the eyedropper?
Press the Escape (ESC) key on your keyboard to dismiss the color dropper without selecting a color.
Is the EyeDropper API supported on Firefox or Safari?
Firefox and Safari have not yet enabled the native desktop EyeDropper API. On those browsers, our tool
automatically falls back to an interactive color palette.
What color format is best for CSS web design?
HEX (#RRGGBB) is the most common format for web styles, while HSL (Hue, Saturation, Lightness) is
preferred when designing accessible color palettes and opacity variations.
